Communications

Intercoms
The heart of our Communications System is the Hi-tech design of the intercom circuitry by Microavionics all contained within the headset itself.  Clean and clutter free.

Our intercoms feature:

  • Speech band filtering High and low frequency filters limit sounds transmitted by the intercom to those most relevant for clear speech, cutting out most of the engine and wind noise.

  • Dual Audio amplifiers separate preamplifier and power audio amplifier paths for each user assures independence of volume between headsets regardless of the setting of individual volume controls.

  • Adjustable headset volume. An ear cup fitted adjustment allows tailoring of the volume of your own voice returned to you along with that of the other person in the plane.

  • Integrated radio interface, Aux. audio in and out for a CD player and/or recording of voice and radio transmission while video filming during flight and PTT cables are offered.

  • Most ultralight intercoms operate with "hot mics", mainly because the range of noise levels in an average ultralight on climb versus cruise or descent means that a VOX is of limited use, (particularly doing circuits!).  Due to this "hot mic" situation most systems let in far too much noise during climb out and even in cruise operation.  This is where we excel against other systems.  Our state of the art hi-tech intercom system filters out most engine and wind noise which means you will experience the quietest flight you have ever had in your aircraft with our system.  We guarantee that.

  • (1) Pro 100 Microavionics Micolight intercom

Ideal for open cockpit aircraft, these intercoms are designed by pilots for pilots. Specially designed noise canceling electric mic for superior speech quality and the very latest and quietest headset cones available by Peltor offering 29dbl passive noise attenuation.  Headsets have internal NIMH batteries which last for over 60 hours before re-charge. Our headsets have batteries fitted into the ear cup, which we feel makes more sense in a headset design.  Headsets can be worn on their own with or without helmets or simply plug two together for the clearest two way intercom communication you could possibly wish to experience.

All our intercoms can be interfaced to airband or 2 meter radios --Contact us for Radio product specifics.

    • Specially designed noise canceling mic
    • Virtually no wind, or engine noise even in direct airflow
    • 60+ hours battery life (typically 100 hours)
    • NiMh battery packs (no memory effect)
    • Self contained, self powered headset
    • Unparalleled superior speech quality
    • Individual volume controls on each headset
    • Simple bayonet type plug together system
    • Newly designed special noise attenuating headsets
    • Interfaces to most radio
    • Padded headbands for extra comfort
    • Two (2) year warranty

Intercom headsets can comfortably be worn underneath our Microlight helmet.

We now offer our own certified helmets with our full face visor in standard

and long length.  Our range includes communication helmets for both Ultralight/light sport aircraft and paramotors.  The helmets are designed to fit over the top of our intercom headsets.  The lightness of the composite construction of our new helmet reduces fatigue, particularly on long cross country flights, compared to other helmets on the market.

The helmet shell is made of a very smooth in profile, composite material with minimal protrusions to catch on obstacles in the aircraft.  This reduces the risk of neck and brain-stem injury in the event of an accident.  The superb comfort and highest levels of passive noise attenuation of the headset, offered by no others, assures a reduction in fatigue and stress during flight.  The Microlight helmet is supplied with a flip up full face visor and air-dam wind deflector for the neck area.  We supply all sizes with the standard color being white.  Flip up visors can also be supplied in an optional tinted version.

    (2) Single Headset for Solo Use (shown above)

Solo headset can be switched on using a switching adaptor or can be used with a radio interface.

    (3) Radio Interface

PRO100 Radio Interface is shown above. Our new and improve unit enjoys all the old features plus much more.  Simply plug one single headset or a pair of headsets into the radio interface and this will switch on the headsets.  We offer powered interface units which trickle charge the headset during use so that you will never need to charge them, and un-powered radio interfaces.  An air-band radio can also be plugged directly into the radio interface to allow communication between other aircraft and the ground.   Please state which air-band radio is to be used when ordering.

Our new powered radio interface now features user selectable P1 only connection for radio transmissions, P2 only connection for radio transmission so that the student or co-pilot can take over the radio duty or P1 and P2 connections, which allows both pilot and co-pilot/student to transmit over the radio.  When P1 or P2 is selected, only that user is heard over the radio during transmission even if the other is speaking.  However, when P1 and P2 is selected either user can speak and if one is speaking while the other transmits on the radio the second voice will be audible over the radio.

But wait... there's more!  We now offer not only offer audio in and out on the powered interface, which allows you to play a CD or MP3 player during flight, but we now offer cell phone connection at no extra charge.  This means you can receive or place a cell phone call while you are in the air and hear it right through your headset.  And there are further additions.  We also offer at no additional charge, a second radio connection within the same box.  This means you can use your air-bands radio for official radio use of air to ground or announcing to other aircraft your position and intentions when in the pattern.  Then you have an auxiliary radio-in plug for a simple walkie-talkie type radio, such as those sold by Radio Shack  for when you want general chitchat between two pilots, for example, when a friend is flying another aircraft along on a cross-country, which is prohibited over air-band radio waves.

Two more features of the audio in-out function are the fact that when you are listening to music via the audio-in plug and a radio transmission is picked up, the music is automatically muted and will only slowly come back in volume, once there are no further radio transmissions detected.  With audio-out, you can plug directly into a video camera's Aux. Mic plug and as you film you can make comments which will be directly recorded to your video tape, including any radio calls that are received or transmitted.  No other manufacturer gives you all these features and functions.

    **NEW**  Strobe Isolation Switch

Our PRO100 Radio Interface can also have our new strobe isolation switch fitted between the interface and the strobe power lead.  This will turn off the strobe each time the PTT is activated to eliminate the pop-pop static which sometimes comes from strobe heads flashing during radio transmission, if poorly insulated.  Release the PTT and the strobe begins working again.

          (4) Paramotor Headset Intercom

We also offer two Paramotor intercom headsets one shown above.  Both models are designed to work with air-band or 2-metre radios.  This new system also offers Paramotor pilots the option of Auxiliary Audio-IN (for CD or MP3 players) and remote PTT switch.  The headsets are the very latest in ear defender technology offering approx. 29dbl passive noise attenuation.  They have a low profile padded headband, specially design microphone, special speakers and onboard PTT switch.  These intercoms are robust and built to last.

During the design phase Microavionics took special notice of quality of transmit signal and both models perform very well when transmitting.  Our top model also has a built-in intercom called side tone.  Side tone enables you to hear your own voice only when transmitting, thus avoiding the need to raise your voice, which in turn gives a clearer transmit signal.

  • Specially designed noise canceling electric microphone
  • Virtually no wind, or engine noise even in direct airflow
  • On-board volume & PTT
  • Remote PTT & Audio-IN facility (for CD or MP3 player)
  • Side tone "hear your own voice when transmitting"
  • Connects to most radios and it's built to last
